OD Green Lot 2210 1930’S Alaskan Down Coat
The U.S. Air Force adopted this lightweight quilted down coat based in Alaska in the early days of World War II. Designed by Eddie Bauer in the late 1930s, the suit was originally intended for Alaskan bush pilots, but was used by U.S. Air Force Lt. John Geddes during operations in the Aleutian Islands, using the then–very heavy sheepskin flight gear (B –7) It quickly became popular after people started wearing this coat instead. Although down jackets were not yet widely known at the time, Geddes was later promoted and enlisted Bauer’s help in redesigning the U.S. Air Force’s cold–weather clothing, resulting in the famous “B–9 down jacket”. The ``Parker’’ and ``A–8 Trousers’’ were born.
